A royal wedding took place in Europe over the weekend when the crown prince of Albania, Leka II, married a popular actress, Elia Zaharia.
It was the first time a member of the Albanian royal family has been married in the country since 1938 – and only the second royal wedding ever in Albania. The country was invaded by Italian Fascist troops in 1939, forcing Leka’s grandfather Zog I to flee.
The royal family, living in exile, was unable to return to Albania until the fall of communism in the country in 1990.
This weekend’s wedding featured a lavish ceremony and all the pomp and ceremony you’d expect of a royal wedding.
Representatives of more than 20 royal families from around the world attended, including Queen Elizabeth II’s cousin Prince Michael of Kent.
