Setting the date for your wedding can be one of the hardest parts of your wedding planning.
Some couples will choose a date that is sentimental to them – the anniversary of when they first met, first started dating or got engaged and so on. Sometimes couples will choose an anniversary of their parents or grandparents to honour them if they’re not around anymore. Other times they might get hitched on one of their birthdays.
Other times they know that they want to get married in a particular season or month so that narrows it down a bit.
If you haven’t set the date yet and are looking for some inspiration, here’s a guide to dates for 2017 and 2018 that are bound to be popular (for different reasons!)
Saturday 7th January 2017 – One for the recurring numbers fans. 07/01/17 will be an easy anniversary date to remember.

Thursday 26th to Sunday 29th January 2017 – Australia Day falls on a Thursday in 2017. Having a wedding on this weekend will help your guests with an extra long weekend if they need to travel to get to it.

Saturday 1st April 2017 – April Fool’s Day can be a great day for a lighthearted wedding.
Thursday 12th to Tuesday 18th April 2017 – Planning a wedding on or to coincide with the Easter long weekend is often a popular option for people who are having a destination wedding, or have guests who need to travel to attend.

Thursday 29th March to Tuesday 3rd April 2018 – Planning a wedding on or to coincide with the Easter long weekend is often a popular option for people who are having a destination wedding, or have guests who need to travel to attend. Easter Sunday falls on April Fools Day – 1st April – in 2018.
Friday 13th April or Friday 13th July 2018 – If you’re not worried about Friday 13th being unlucky, this might be a great day to have a fun wedding.
18th day of the month – In 2018 there are a few dates that will be hot for people who enjoy symmetrical dates. May 18th (18-05-18) falls on a Friday while the 8-filled date of August 18th (18-08-18) falls on a Saturday.
Monday 31st December 2018 – NYE weddings have become quite popular in recent years, and are a great way to ring in a new year.
Other dates that might work for you are around public holidays in your state or territory, such as Labour Day long weekends, Queens Birthday or Melbourne Cup.
Check the local area where you are planning to get married to see if there are any events planned for the date you are keen on, such as festivals. It can become really difficult for your guests to book accommodation in these circumstances, never mind your wedding photos can be compromised when there are too many people around.
