Sparklers come in all shapes and sizes. But so far in 2016 there are some styles that are more common than others.

These are the top trends in engagement rings this year.

1.  Morganites

Morganites are a peach coloured stone that pairs well with rose gold. They’re also softer and more affordable than diamonds. They’re so hot that they’ve been pinned 62% more on Pinterest this year.

2. Oval shaped rings

Oval cut diamonds have made a major comeback in recent years, and that trend has continued through 2016. The oval shape is popular as it elongates the finger and looks regal.

3. Opal engagement rings

Australia’s national gemstone, the opal, has been enjoying an increase in popularity in recent years. In fact it is now the sixth most popular choice for engagement ring gemstone.

4.  Coloured stones

Kate Middleton’s blue sapphire engagement ring that previously belonged to Princess Diana is the bling that immediately springs to mind when you think of coloured stones. But other celebs like Penelope Cruz and Kelly Clarkson have coloured gemstones in their rings too.

5.  Pear shaped diamonds

Katherine Heigl has one of these unique shaped rocks… and they’ve been increasing in popularity so much this year that there’s been a 100% increase in the number of pear-shaped engagement rings pinned to Pinterest!

6. Rose gold engagement rings

Rose gold is everywhere right now, your iPhone is probably rose gold. So of course engagement rings in rose gold are huge!

7. Pavé settings

The term “pavé” comes from the French word for “paved,” and these rings look like their surfaces are paved with diamonds. Kim Kardashian sports an engagement ring in this setting, and they have increased in popularity on Pinterest by 24% over the last 12 months.
